To the east of Malaga city and with 31 municipalities, the Axarquia is a fertile area famed for it’s fruit production, charming villages and outdoor activities.

With its fertile valleys, soaring mountain peaks, tiny hidden villages and cheerfully scruffy coastal towns, the Axarquia is very much the ‘real’ Andalucia.

Nerja

Nerja is the tourist resort of the Axarquia. Sitting on a stretch of the Costa del Sol that has pretty coves, waterfalls and crystal clear sea.

Comares

Comares is the highest village in the Axarquia. The views are spectacular and it's one of our favourite villages.

Frigiliana

Frigiliana is very pretty - cobbled streets, colourful doors and restaurants with rooftop views. This means it's the most popular village with visitors.

Torre del Mar

Torre del Mar on the Costa del Sol has a huge boulevard with a cycle and running lanes. There's good shopping, eating and drinking options.

Alfarnate

Alfarnate is a small village is a spectacular setting. Famed for its blossom and walking routes it's a beautiful part of the world.

Canillas de Aceituno

Canillas de Aceituno is nestled into Sierra de Tejeda mountain range. There's great hiking, flower filled streets and some great restaurants.

Torrox

Torrox is split into two: Torrox Costa and Torrox Village. It's a few minutes drive from one and the other. There's a lovely square in Torrox Village.

Viñuela

La Viñuela famed for its turquoise reservoir. There are several restaurants with views of the mountains and reservoir as well as a handful of hamlets.

Benamargosa

Benamargosa is famed for being the birth place of El Niño de Velez. A working agricultural village with a 16th century church including a octagonal tower.

Velez-Malaga

All the things to do and see in Velez-Malaga in one place. From museums to art galleries and historic sites to events. Plus where to eat too.
