Ah, summertime. When the livin’ is easy. And it doesn’t get any easier than the Axarquia in August. This is for 2018.
It’s the main feria month and so every weekend there’s a party in one or other of the region’s towns and villages. But really, pretty much wherever you go, August is all about lots of late nights, live music, general frivolity and lazy sun-soaked days.
4th August – Noche en Blanca
- What: Velez-Malaga opens up many of its historic monuments and galleries for a night of culture. Various buildings and squares are used for guided tours, music, theatre and dance. It’s a fantastic night for all ages.

Music
1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th August – Live Jazz at the CAC
- What: The central patio of the contempory art museum is converted into a concert space where a different jazz act plays every Wednesday night throughout August

3rd, 10th & 17th August – Live Flamenco Fusión “Acompasao”
- What: A series of live flamenco fusion concerts held in the open-air with nationally famous acts Tomasito, Diego Guerrero and Javier Ruibal.

10th & 24th August – Summer Concerts at MVVEL, Mvseo de Vélez-Málaga
- What: This beautiful building and its central patio is used for opera and classical guitar concerts during August.

18th August – The Jersey Boys
- What: The songs from the Tony and Laurence Olivier award winning musical are coming to the Axarquia. This will be a fun night with this tribute act belting out the big hits like “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Sherry”, “December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)” and “My Eyes Adored You”

- What: The famous flamenco radio station is inspiration for a concert in Benajarafe with 14 artists
